Suffolk Sportscars Ltd is the magnum opus of Roger Williams. Roger started the business over 20 years ago, which was initially dedicated solely to the production of SS100s, then C-types and over the years diversifying into sales, maintenance, restorative works and internationally touring a variety of classic cars that we have had the pleasure of enjoying.

We produce around 15 new build cars a year, which are assembled in house using all new SS components or remanufactured original Jaguar parts. We are also able to provide a complete set of parts, down to the last nut and bolt, for those who wish to undertake a project at home, without incurring the problems of restoring an original vehicle such as unforeseen costs, unavailable parts and processes required which are beyond one's facilities at home.

We aim to carry a stock of vehicles ready for immediate international use, and these are not limited to our SS100 and C-type models. We also carry a stock of cars for sale of enormous variety to suit all tastes and budgets.

The company has expanded enormously from the early days where we would hope to sell just 6 vehicles a year to keep our 3 employees busy, to the present day where we occupy over 7,500 sq ft of dedicated secure storage for cars, as well as a large stockpile of components which are not available new.

Chris Williams (1903 - 1989), Roger’s father and Fraser's Grandfather, joined an organisation called W.H. Johnson and Sons Ltd of Kings Lynn in 1917, an early multi-franchise car dealership. Chris became a Director and shareholder of the group and stayed with the company until he retired in 1970.

Roger Williams is a very keen and lifelong Jaguar fanatic. His first memory of Jaguars was as a passenger coming back from Bedford to his home town of Wisbech after playing for his town in a rugby match. The memory of the twin dials of the Jaguar MK1 3.4 saloon, illuminated in blue light, and the needless rising and falling to the tune of the engine speed made a lasting impression on a 17 year old Roger. He was in his final year at senior school, and had decided that, like his father, cars would be his life.

Roger Williams was apprenticed to Botwoods of Ipswich in 1960 for a 3 year management training course. Botwoods were the Jaguar franchisees for the whole of Suffolk and the 3 year training and him serving time in every department of Botwoods’ two dealerships. He continued with Botwoods as a salesman between 1963 and 1965 where his sales included new E-types, Mk X and S-type models. Visits to Browns Lane to collect new Jaguars from the works were a regular occurrence. In 1965 when he left Botwoods to start his own car rental company, Willhire Limited.

Over the next 30 years he owned and restored a 1935 SS II, four E-types and two Lister-Jaguars. The two Listers were campaigned in seven seasons of Historic Car Racing in England and Europe. One of these was fully restored by Roger, which many will know as the Briggs-Cunningham Lister Knobbly. He also briefly owned in 1966, a 1936 Jaguar SS100, which had been fitted with a Jaguar Mk VII engine.

In 1971 he bought his first daily-driver Jaguar XJ6 2.8. This was followed by a number of XJ6 4.2 cars and a Daimler Double-Six. Roger met an owner of a TRAC SS100 in 1995 and decided it was time to go and meet the man who made them.

Roger ended up purchasing the TRAC SS100 company, and developing it into what is now the Suffolk SS100. You can read more in the SS100 section.

Roger's son, Fraser Williams, has been involved within Suffolk Sportscars Ltd. from a very young age, indeed having been at many shows, hillclimbs and events for years, and always surrounded by cars.

He has therefore found that the automotive bloodline has been passed onto him and therefore has naturally led on in Roger's footsteps after 3 years apprenticing at Suffolk Sportscars Ltd. and time spent in training within the classic car world, and particularly Jaguars, in Suffolk, California and London.
